The IT Directorate of Nepal Telecom implements operates and maintains computers and computer networks of Nepal Telecom and provides internet services around the nation.
It plans the IT policies and implements the programs of the company.
The directorate operates and maintains computer networks for billing of PSTN, CDMA, GSM telephone, Internet systems.
It operates and maintains customer care, ERP, inventory, human resource management and office automation systems.
It manages and operates various Information Systems i.e. PSTN Customer Billing System (CBS & EBS), Service Division (SD), Internet Billing System (IBS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Convergent Real Time Billing (CRTB) etc.The directorate operates the largest domestic IP Networks through optical system and it has the largest international internet connectivity via satellite and cross border optical fiber link.(nearly 1.5 Gegabit)
Objectives :-
- Planning of Computerization in Nepal Telecom.
- Forecast Requirement of computer, network & accessories for different function of Nepal Telecom.
- Procurement of computer and related equipments as well as their accessories and spare parts through Tender process.
- Supply/Distribute computer according to the program of computerization within Nepal Telecom
- Design, Development & Implementation of Information systems.
- Design, Develop and expand network to provide services like Internet/Email through Leased line, dial-up or other means to customer in a cheap and accessible way throughout the country.
- Manage necessary International Internet Bandwidth to provide high quality internet service.
- Set-up Inter office and intra office Computer Network & maintain them.
- Support telecom offices to trouble shoot problems related to their Computer Hardware, Software, Network and Internet connectivity.
- Prepare Action Plan for implementation of IT Policy
- Prepare and Implement Enterprise Architecture of Nepal Telecom.
- Disaster recovery plan and policy for each Information System
- Assessing requirements for different departments of the company
- Planning for Data and other IT related services.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Forecasting of overall systems

Milestones
- Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (Nepal Telecom) established the Computerization & Billing (Combi) Project in 1996 with the aim of introducing computerization activities in Nepal Telecom to enhance work efficiency. Afterwards it was split into two different Departments i.e. Computer Department and Billing Department.
- The computerization activities in Nepal Telecom commenced with the billing system in X-Based platform for Nepal Telecom customers.
- During 1995, the Corporate Database Project (CDB) started to bring about radical change in overall Nepal Telecom activities. It mainly focused on simplifying organizational information infrastructure to integrate all business data in one place.
- CDB project divided activities of Nepal Telecom into various Clusters - Service Division System (SD), Human Resource Management System (HRMS), Inventory Control System, Financial System Division (FSD) and General Accounting.
- 2001, the Computer Billing System (CBS) has commenced with the aim to cater for the entire Billing and Customer Accounting of the Telecom operations of Nepal Telecom. CBS system is operational in all Cash Counters within the Valley. Telephone customers can pay their bills at any counters.
- From the very beginning IT Directorate is actively working in Computer Distribution, Hardware Maintenance, Software Development and Computer Networking all around the Telecom Offices.
- 2006 - Internet Section brought under IT Directorate.
- 2008 - IT Directorate was formed by merging the existing Computer Department and Billing Department.
- 2010 - Internet Bandwidth approaches beyond 1 Gegabit.
